Remember when slip dresses were worn under dresses instead of just by themselves? They’re slinky, they’re flirty..but what if you’re not necessarily going for that type of vibe? Today i’m breaking down all the potential outfit possibilities with this little black slip dress.

The slip dress is slowly turning into one of the most versatile pieces in my closet. I actually remember them being all the rage in the 90s and desperately wanting to wear one. My mom said I was not allowed to leave the house in underwear. 🙂 I’m happy to say that the slip dress is back and here to stay, although in a more elegant way. Certainly it’s less about wearing a sexy piece of lingerie and more about taking a traditional piece of clothing and elevating it in new ways. The addition of a t-shirt here tones down the femininity and makes the outfit more interesting.

I like being able to use my summer pieces when it’s cold out by layering them and figuring out new ways to style them. This dress gives off sultry vibes when worn on its own but is a bit more refined when layered with a t-shirt. In the past, I’ve layered my slip dresses with a sweater on top, like I did here, for more of a cozy look.

Real Life

So, how do you apply this to real life? What makes the slip dress so great is that the outfit possibilities are endless. You can add a t-shirt underneath as pictured here or a sweater on top (consider a sweater underneath as well), or a denim jacket on top. For footwear, dress it up with mules or down with sneakers. I’m planning on wearing a cozy long cardigan with this dress and some dainty jewelry for a more Fall-inspired look.

Any of these modifications would change the entire vibe. I’m clearly obsessed. Anyone else into slip dresses?
