What to Wear When You’re Meeting Someone for Coffee

It’s such a great way to initially get to know someone and it’s understood that it’s a short meeting so there is no obligation to stay for hours if you don’t hit it off. My goal is to establish common ground and show that i’m professional, engaged and if it’s blog-related, I want to showcase my style.

There are a few things I try to keep in mind, especially if it’s a first meeting:

1. I get there 5-10 minutes early. My preference is to get to the coffee shop early so I can get comfortable and situated.

2. I want to look chic. When I look good, I feel good. I think about what I want to wear the night before so it’s one less thing to think about the day of and decreases the chances that i’ll be late.

3. I’m present. I try to put aside anything else going on in my life and focus on the person i’m speaking to.

I like to tailer my look to the setting i’m in. If i’m getting coffee with someone for my blog, I would be comfortable wearing an open-shoulder top like this one. It’s stylish, trendy and looks great with a pair of jeans. It also strategically hides any baby weight. 🙂 If i’m meeting someone for my life as a pharmacist, I would err on the more conservative side. My philosophy on work style is that I like to look professional yet stylish. At all times, I want to show my personality.

Unless you work in a very corporate old-school setting, showing your personal style is a great way to showcase a snapshot of who you are. I will say though that when you’re meeting someone for the first time, try to avoid any logos or expensive labels. I find it to be distracting. Otherwise, be yourself!

The chance to sit down and get to know someone over coffee is a wonderful thing. In both my pharmacy and blogger worlds, I often reach out to co-workers in different departments or other bloggers in the industry to get to know them a little better. I always find myself learning something new and making new friends. I have also had interns and co-workers contact me to find out more about what I do. I’m always impressed when someone has the initiative to reach out and wants to take the time to get to know me.

I linked my outfit below as well as some other flowy open-shoulder tops. Let me know what you think and be sure to check out my picks to help you curate the perfect outfit no matter where you need to be!
